What Is A POS?

by Peter Maly
(Naples, Florida)

Point of Sale System

Point of Sale System

A POS simply stands for Point of Sale system. This is the computer like thing that you will see behind many bars as well as other retail operations to ring orders and process sales.

In a bar environment, these systems will typically have a database of the most commonly ordered drinks as well as anything else that is available to order such as food.

A POS will commonly use a touch screen interface so all you have to do is touch the appropriate tab on the screen to ring up that item.

Ultimately, the better versed you are in the use of a POS system the quicker and more effective bartender you will be.
